Queen Elsa and a Frozen Obsession

To say that my daughter loves the movie Frozen is an understatement.

She is obsessed!

We watch it every other day. Every morning she insists I do her hair as either Anna or Elsa. She plays with the toys. She reads the books. She has the decals on the wall.

It is a good thing I enjoy the movie as well, or I would be driven insane every time we get in the car and she insists we listen to "Frozen music."

So imagine my joy when I found this project on www.makeit-loveit.com.

And here is my little queen Elsa.

(please note the single "Queen Elsa" braid…)

I have some more sewing projects to add, but as they are gifts I have to wait a few weeks to add them. Hopefully I'll have some other sewing projects to add before then!

Until next time!

Quilting for a Cause

Although I live far away, my family is still very close. When my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2013, it hurt not to be in Cincinnati. I felt like there was nothing I could do.

Except pray.

And quilt.

This is the quilt I made her. I surprised her with it in September of 2013, while she was still in the diagnosis phase of her battle.

I love making quilts for specific people and for specific occasions. While I make it I am able to think about the person, reminisce on favorite times, and say a few prayers for what is going on in their life. While I prefer not to have a reason like cancer, it helps me to be able to do something for that person. It also helps to think that maybe my quilt is able to bring some comfort in a very difficult time.

I am happy to say that my aunt loved the quilt.

I am even happier to say that she kicked cancer right in the butt and has been in remission since October.

I love you Aunt Amy!

Papercrafting: A Hobby Too Many

I have fallen in love with paper crafting! I've technically been doing it for awhile, as I've been working on Abigail's "First Year" scrapbook for three and a half years now. When the new Cricut Explore came out, I had to have it. I first wanted it to make patterns for appliqué, which was my main use for the old Cricut.

Ever since the new machine came in the mail I have been obsessed! I even went as far as to decorate my machine with the vinyl that comes with it.

It started as a desire to help my sister-in-law, Emily, with the paper flowers for her wedding:

(Not her wedding colors, just a practice rose)

The obsession became a desire to make a bouquet for the nook in our house. Can you believe all these little pieces are cut by a machine, then easily assembled into something so pretty?

Here are my finished roses. I am waiting to put the stems on and assemble them until I find the perfect vase! While this was time consuming, it was not difficult, and I love how they turned out!

And of course, I had to make a sparkly pink one for my princess!

I need to stop trying new crafting hobbies! I have yet to find a craft I don't enjoy! The more I do, the less time I have for other things, like quilting. Time to get back to basics and pull the out sewing machine again, especially with trying to open a new Etsy shop, and the millions of babies my friends and family seem to be having in June!

Baby items, here I come!

…and we'll have to see how I can work the new Cricut into the mix…

Handmade Pillow Roundup

Since it has been over a year since I was current on my blog, I decided to take a few posts to post pictures of what I have made in my time away. My husband and I have been attempting to do "handmade Christmases," meaning if we didn't make it, we are probably not giving it as a gift. I found that throw pillows can be a thoughtful gift, especially when made as a holiday decoration!

Now that I have uploaded the pictures I am realizing that I was in such a rush to finish before Christmas that I never took pictures of half my pillows. And even the ones I have pictures of are not necessarily finished. I guess I now have a goal to do better!

I'm back with a new name!

It's been awhile since I've posted, but that doesn't mean I haven't been creating! My goal is to get back to posting as often as I can create fun new things!

Also, since I'm attempting to revamp the blog, I've decided to go with a new name!

HascherMade

Short, sweet, to the point!

The blog will also focus on more than just sewing projects. I am hoping to incorporate some paper crafting and cooking into the blog, as well as anything else I try. Essentially anything made by me HascherMade!

I will update again later this week with all of the wonderful projects that I've been working on since my blogging hiatus began!

So until next time….

Visitors and Christmas Sewing

Hello Everyone!

I know it has been awhile since I posted, but the month of November was very busy for us. My sewing room doubles as our guest room, so four sets of back-to-back visitors left me with nowhere to sew... and no time to do it!

On top of that, the few things I have been able to piece together are Christmas presents, so you can't see them anyway! (I feel as though I should follow that statement up with some sort of taunting phrase.... Nah nah nah nah boo boo....)

Here are a few items I have finished that everyone on here is allowed to see!

The first two pictures are Christmas table runners that I made for my mom. Nothing special, but I did LOVE the fabric!!

The next few pictures are of the smallest quilt and pillow set I will ever make. At the same time, it will be the only time that I can say I was able to make a quilt and two pillows start to finish in under an hour!

My friend (I mean Santa) is giving her daughters a dollhouse that she built and painted for Christmas. She asked me to make the quilt for the bed. I used fabric that I had leftover from a pillow I made Abigail last summer.

Lastly, what is a blog post without pictures of my adorable little lady? So here are her "Christmas card preview" pictures!

I won't be posting again until January, since all of my projects over the next few weeks will be presents. I will be sure to update then and include pictures of all of the projects I've been putting off posting about!

Merry Christmas and enjoy the rest of 2012!

Halloween in a Hurry

Do you ever get an idea in your head and decide that it has to be done right away? I do. And when I get excited about a project, there is no stopping me. That is how Halloween was for my family.

I woke up and realized one of my favorite quilt stores was having the start of their after Halloween fabric sale. I decided then that the lack of decorations around the house was depressing and I just HAD to make something for the table for the festivities.

Hence the "great plan..."

I headed to the fabric store, but a half yard of four fabrics and decided I was going to do a chevron table runner. Keep in mind that I have never done one of these, but was excited about the idea. So I got home, cut the rectangles, and began to sew. And no, I had no pattern and no experience, only the drive of the deadline (that night) and my excitement!

Here is what I ended up with:

Halloween Table Topper (Unfinished, top only)
I absolutely LOVE how it turned out! But of course, but desire to finish was more than the time I had left and I decided to finish it, that is when it all went wrong. I sandwiched it, sewed the edges, and flipped it like a pillow case. Then I realized that I managed to put the insul-bright on the wrong side of the sandwich and it ended up on the outside of my table runner. NOT GOOD. But what was even worse: I decided to "fix" it. Needless to say I now have to take the whole thing apart and fix more than just the batting.

I will post pictures of the finished project once I get over my disappointment and take it apart. I will try and finish it before I put away the other Halloween stuff. At least that way when I pull out the decorations next year I will have it finished and it will just be a distant memory!

On a MUCH happier note, my daughter was the most adorable Minnie Mouse EVER! Even if she refused to wear her ears! And she absolutely loved trick-or-treating, as long as no one around her was wearing a mask!

"Practicing" Trick-or-Treating
With her friends. This is the closest to standing still I could get!
Checking out her treasures

She had a blast. At the end of the night she kept dumping her pumpkin and rechecking that her candy was still there. For a second I didn't think we'd be able to pry the pumpkin away so she could go to sleep!

Happy (Belated) Halloween Everyone!
